We'd be surprised if Ooma, Inc. (NYSE:OOMA) shareholders haven't noticed that the President, Eric Stang, recently sold US$248k worth of stock at US$12.85 per share. However, the silver lining is that the sale only reduced their total holding by 1.4%, so we're hesitant to read anything much into it, on its own.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ooma
Notably, that recent sale by President Eric Stang was not the only time they sold Ooma shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -US$1.7m worth of shares at a price of US$15.24 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$12.56. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.
In the last year Ooma insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Ooma insiders own 8.9% of the company, worth about US$31m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. Insiders own shares, but we're still pretty cautious, given the history of sales. We'd practice some caution before buying!
