Fidelity National Financial Insiders Sell US$7.4m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution
The fact that multiple Fidelity National Financial, Inc. (NYSE:FNF) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Fidelity National Financial Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The Executive VP & CFO, Anthony Park, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$4.3m worth of shares at a price of US$50.82 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$63.03. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was only 19% of Anthony Park's holding.
