Summary I am confident that the majority of Seeking Alpha readers, who are among the most knowledgeable DIY investors across any internet forum, understand how Nike stock hit a 12-year low. The numbers look encouraging today. But for Nike to stage a comeback, I believe the company needs to restore the relationship between sports performance innovation and lifestyle demand. I highlight a few performance data points that confirm Nike's Sport Offense strategy is moving in the right direction. Investing in Nike today at a P/E of 23x, in my opinion, assumes sports innovation will immediately translate into lifestyle demand, which I do not see happening for several reasons. Analysts have trimmed their average price target for Nike to $40, reflecting reduced fair value estimates and lower future P/E assumptions as they factor in weaker sales trends, execution risk in China and a slower turnaround, partly offset by expectations for stronger margins. Analyst Commentary Recent research on Nike points to a clear split in opinion, with many bearish analysts highlighting execution risk, slower growth in key categories and uncertainty around the company’s China strategy.Recent updates
