Telos Corporation (NASDAQ:TLS) Analysts Just Trimmed Their Revenue Forecasts By 11%

The latest analyst coverage could presage a bad day for Telos Corporation (NASDAQ:TLS), with the analysts making across-the-board cuts to their statutory estimates that might leave shareholders a little shell-shocked. This report focused on revenue estimates, and it looks as though the consensus view of the business has become substantially more conservative. Bidders are definitely seeing a different story, with the stock price of US$3.93 reflecting a 18% rise in the past week. With such a sharp increase, it seems brokers may have seen something that is not yet being priced in by the wider market.

Following the latest downgrade, the six analysts covering Telos provided consensus estimates of US$127m revenue in 2024, which would reflect a chunky 13% decline on its sales over the past 12 months. Per-share losses are expected to explode, reaching US$0.75 per share. However, before this estimates update, the consensus had been expecting revenues of US$142m and US$0.63 per share in losses. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analysts making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.

NasdaqGM:TLS Earnings and Revenue Growth March 19th 2024

The consensus price target lifted 24% to US$5.50, clearly signalling that the weaker revenue and EPS outlook are not expected to weigh on the stock over the longer term.

Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. These estimates imply that sales are expected to slow, with a forecast annualised revenue decline of 13% by the end of 2024. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 6.0% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 12% per year. It's pretty clear that Telos' revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and the latest forecasts imply the business will grow sales slower than the wider market. There was also a nice increase in the price target, with analysts apparently feeling that the intrinsic value of the business is improving. Often, one downgrade can set off a daisy-chain of cuts, especially if an industry is in decline. So we wouldn't be surprised if the market became a lot more cautious on Telos after today.

Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Telos going out to 2025, and you can see them free on our platform here.
