Hartford Insurance Group Executive VP & Chief Risk Officer Robert Paiano Sells 29% Of Holding
We wouldn't blame The Hartford Insurance Group, Inc. (NYSE:HIG) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Robert Paiano, the Executive VP & Chief Risk Officer recently netted about US$1.2m selling shares at an average price of US$128. That sale reduced their total holding by 29% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Hartford Insurance Group
Notably, that recent sale by Executive VP & Chief Risk Officer Robert Paiano was not the only time they sold Hartford Insurance Group shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -US$1.5m worth of shares at a price of US$111 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$131). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 34% of Robert Paiano's holding.

Does Hartford Insurance Group Boast High Insider Ownership?
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Hartford Insurance Group insiders own 0.5% of the company, currently worth about US$181m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
