Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance's (NYSE:ARI) 1.2% CAGR outpaced the company's earnings growth over the same five-year period

Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc. (NYSE:ARI) shareholders should be happy to see the share price up 16% in the last month. But if you look at the last five years the returns have not been good. In fact, the share price is down 41%, which falls well short of the return you could get by buying an index fund.

The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, it has a TSR of 6.0% for the last 5 years.
