CACI (CACI) Stock Jumps As Tech Pivot Gains Traction

The market just put CACI International on a pedestal. The stock exploded about 21% in a single session, a huge move for a government technology and services contractor. That kind of jump suggests emotion first, questions later.

The headline that stirred this reaction is clear. CACI reported a strong fiscal 2026 finish with fourth quarter revenue of about US$2.7b and basic earnings per share above US$7, alongside a full year that reflected its shift toward higher margin technology work. The rest of the earnings story will decide whether this surge appears justified or whether investors simply chased the most eye-catching headline in the release.

CACI’s Tech Pivot Clears Key Execution Hurdles

Bulls argue CACI International is shifting from a services contractor to a technology focused national security company with larger, higher margin contracts and stronger cash generation. FY26 results go a long way toward proving that out. Revenue reached US$9.6b with 7.2% organic growth, while EBITDA margin moved to 12.3% and adjusted EPS rose to US$29.83. Free cash flow of US$735m, with a sharp rise per share, directly tackles earlier worries about cash conversion.

The thesis also hinges on technology programs and contract visibility. In this area, CACI hit clear milestones. Electronic warfare and SkyValor counter UAS programs secured awards, including the US$500m Domestic Shield contract, and a key Spectral EW program reached Milestone C and entered low rate initial production. Awards above US$10b, a book to bill near 1.1x, and backlog above US$32b indicate that higher tech, multi year work is now embedded rather than theoretical.

CACI Bear Case Meets Solid, But Not Perfect, Print

Bears have argued that CACI’s growth comes with shrinking free cash flow margins, flat returns on capital and rising compliance and delivery costs. The latest FY26 report pushes back on some of that, but not all. Free cash flow reached US$735m and management now targets at least US$900m in FY27 with a higher EBITDA margin range, which runs against the idea of structurally weaker cash generation. Backlog above US$32b and funded backlog growth also challenge fears that budget risk is already choking awards.

The miss for the bearish camp is less about the income statement and more about timing and leverage. Management still highlights award and mix variability, and free cash flow remains back half weighted. Pro forma leverage of 3.7x and a plan to reach the low 3x area by 2027 mean balance sheet risk has not fully cleared, even as CACI leans harder into higher margin technology programs.

With leverage still elevated and free cash flow timing uneven, you may want to ask whether this is the full picture. Review our structured risk analysis for CACI International which shows 1 important warning sign to see if those headline concerns are just the start or part of a wider risk pattern.
