Introducing CX Technology (TPE:2415), The Stock That Zoomed 203% In The Last Year
Unless you borrow money to invest, the potential losses are limited. But if you pick the right business to buy shares in, you can make more than you can lose. For example, the CX Technology Corporation (TPE:2415) share price has soared 203% in the last year. Most would be very happy with that, especially in just one year! It's also good to see the share price up 99% over the last quarter. Also impressive, the stock is up 79% over three years, making long term shareholders happy, too.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.
During the last year CX Technology saw its earnings per share (EPS) drop below zero. While some may see this as temporary, we're a skeptical bunch, and so we're a little surprised to see the share price go up. We might get a clue to explain the share price move by looking to other metrics.
We are skeptical of the suggestion that the 1.2% dividend yield would entice buyers to the stock. Unfortunately CX Technology's fell 15% over twelve months. So the fundamental metrics don't provide an obvious explanation for the share price gain.

What About Dividends?
When looking at investment returns, it is important to consider the difference between total shareholder return (TSR) and share price return. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of CX Technology, it has a TSR of 212% for the last year. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
It's nice to see that CX Technology shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 212% over the last year. And that does include the dividend. That's better than the annualised return of 28% over half a decade, implying that the company is doing better recently. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand CX Technology better, we need to consider many other factors. For example, we've discovered 3 warning signs for CX Technology (2 are potentially serious!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
