Insider Returns Down To US$45k As Ribbon Communications' Stock Dips 16%
Ribbon Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:RBBN) insiders who acquired shares over the previous 12 months, can probably afford to ignore the recent 16% decline in the stock price. After taking the recent loss into consideration, the US$345.9k worth of stock they bought is now worth US$391.1k, indicating that their investment yielded a positive return.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ribbon Communications
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Lead Independent Director Bruns Grayson for US$289k worth of shares, at about US$2.89 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$3.25), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 2.4% of Ribbon Communications shares, worth about US$13m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
