Could The Qutoutiao Inc. (NASDAQ:QTT) Ownership Structure Tell Us Something Useful?

Every investor in Qutoutiao Inc. (NASDAQ:QTT) should be aware of the most powerful shareholder groups. Institutions have a very small stake in Qutoutiao. That indicates that the company is on the radar of some funds, but it isn't particularly popular with professional investors at the moment. So if the company itself can improve over time, we may well see more institutional buyers in the future. It is not uncommon to see a big share price rise if multiple institutional investors are trying to buy into a stock at the same time. Qutoutiao is not owned by hedge funds. Our data shows that Innotech Group Holdings Ltd. is the largest shareholder with 41% of shares outstanding. In comparison, the second and third largest shareholders hold about 10% and 8.7% of the stock. Lei Li, who is the third-largest shareholder, also happens to hold the title of Vice Chairman.

A more detailed study of the shareholder registry showed us that 2 of the top shareholders have a considerable amount of ownership in the company, via their 51% stake.

While studying institutional ownership for a company can add value to your research, it is also a good practice to research analyst recommendations to get a deeper understand of a stock's expected performance. While there is some analyst coverage, the company is probably not widely covered. So it could gain more attention, down the track.

Insider Ownership Of Qutoutiao

While the precise definition of an insider can be subjective, almost everyone considers board members to be insiders. Company management run the business, but the CEO will answer to the board, even if he or she is a member of it.

Most consider insider ownership a positive because it can indicate the board is well aligned with other shareholders. However, on some occasions too much power is concentrated within this group.

Shareholders would probably be interested to learn that insiders own shares in Qutoutiao Inc.. As individuals, the insiders collectively own US$65m worth of the US$744m company. It is good to see some investment by insiders, but it might be worth checking if those insiders have been buying.
