Ecolab Inc. (NYSE:ECL) Just Released Its Yearly Results And Analysts Are Updating Their Estimates
Investors in Ecolab Inc. (NYSE:ECL) had a good week, as its shares rose 4.9% to close at US$262 following the release of its full-year results. Results were roughly in line with estimates, with revenues of US$16b and statutory earnings per share of US$7.37. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. So we gathered the latest post-earnings forecasts to see what estimates suggest is in store for next year.

Following last week's earnings report, Ecolab's 20 analysts are forecasting 2025 revenues to be US$16.1b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Statutory per share are forecast to be US$7.36, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$16.3b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$7.30 in 2025. The consensus analysts don't seem to have seen anything in these results that would have changed their view on the business, given there's been no major change to their estimates.
The analysts reconfirmed their price target of US$281, showing that the business is executing well and in line with expectations. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Ecolab at US$313 per share, while the most bearish prices it at US$219. This shows there is still a bit of diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.
Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. We would highlight that Ecolab's revenue growth is expected to slow, with the forecast 2.0% annualised growth rate until the end of 2025 being well below the historical 6.5% p.a. growth over the last five years. Compare this against other companies (with analyst forecasts) in the industry, which are in aggregate expected to see revenue growth of 4.4% annually. Factoring in the forecast slowdown in growth, it seems obvious that Ecolab is also expected to grow slower than other industry participants.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that there's been no major change in sentiment, with the analysts reconfirming that the business is performing in line with their previous earnings per share estimates. Fortunately, the analysts also reconfirmed their revenue estimates, suggesting that it's tracking in line with expectations. Although our data does suggest that Ecolab's revenue is expected to perform worse than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.
Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Ecolab going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here..
