Aspen Aerogels Insider Ups Holding During Year

Viewing insider transactions for Aspen Aerogels, Inc.'s (NYSE:ASPN ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net buyers. This means that a larger number of shares were purchased by insiders in relation to shares sold.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Aspen Aerogels Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when President Donald Young bought US$107k worth of shares at a price of US$5.35 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$6.35), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Aspen Aerogels Insiders Are Selling The Stock

Over the last three months, we've seen a bit of insider selling at Aspen Aerogels. Chief Accounting Officer Santhosh Daniel only netted US$47k selling shares, in that period. It's not great to see insider selling, nor the lack of recent buyers. But the amount sold isn't enough for us to put any weight on it.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 1.4% of Aspen Aerogels shares, worth about US$7.9m, according to our data. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Aspen Aerogels Tell Us?

We did not see any insider buying in the last three months, but we did see selling. But the sales were small, so we're not concerned. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year. The transactions are fine but it'd be more encouraging if Aspen Aerogels insiders bought more shares in the company.
