We wouldn't blame Assured Guaranty Ltd. (NYSE:AGO) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Dominic Frederico, the Deputy Chairman recently netted about US$2.5m selling shares at an average price of US$80.01. However, that sale only accounted for 1.9% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Assured Guaranty

Notably, that recent sale by Deputy Chairman Dominic Frederico was not the only time they sold Assured Guaranty shares this year. They previously made an even bigger sale of -US$5.1m worth of shares at a price of US$92.83 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$77.93. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

In the last year Assured Guaranty insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Assured Guaranty insiders own 5.5% of the company, currently worth about US$225m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Assured Guaranty Insiders?

An insider hasn't bought Assured Guaranty stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases.
