Insiders Re-Evaluate Their US$18.0m Stock Purchase As Future FinTech Group Falls To US$21m
The recent 14% drop in Future FinTech Group Inc.'s (NASDAQ:FTFT) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased US$18.0m worth of stock at an average buy price of US$2.00 over the past 12 months. Insiders invest with the hopes of seeing their money grow in value over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth US$8.73m, which is not what they expected.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Future FinTech Group
The insider Shanchun Huang made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$18m worth of shares at a price of US$2.00 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$0.97. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Shanchun Huang.

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Future FinTech Group insiders own about US$9.7m worth of shares (which is 47% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
