Looking at Dutch Bros Inc.'s (NYSE:BROS ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Dutch Bros
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of the Board, Travis Boersma, for US$8.1m worth of shares, at about US$37.41 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$60.20. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. We note that the biggest single sale was only 7.2% of Travis Boersma's holding. Travis Boersma was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.
Travis Boersma divested 1.10m shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$33.16. Dutch Bros Insiders Are Selling The Stock
The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Dutch Bros shares. In total, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of the Board Travis Boersma dumped US$1.5m worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. This may suggest that some insiders think that the shares are not cheap.
Insider Ownership Of Dutch Bros
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Dutch Bros insiders own 1.9% of the company, worth about US$130m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
So What Do The Dutch Bros Insider Transactions Indicate?
An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. On the plus side, Dutch Bros makes money, and is growing profits. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. While conducting our analysis, we found that Dutch Bros has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore it.
