Quite a few insiders have dramatically grown their holdings in Bloomin' Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ:BLMN) over the past 12 months. An insider's optimism about the company's prospects is a positive sign.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Bloomin' Brands Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by CEO & Director Michael Spanos for US$1.0m worth of shares, at about US$8.63 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$7.78. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 130.50k shares for US$1.1m. But insiders sold 9.56k shares worth US$79k. In total, Bloomin' Brands insiders bought more than they sold over the last year.
