Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of Alight, Inc. (NYSE:ALIT), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Alight Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Director Richard Massey made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$322k worth of shares at a price of US$6.45 each. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$7.21. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Alight insiders own 5.6% of the company, currently worth about US$218m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
