Alamo Group Inc. (NYSE:ALG) shareholders may have reason to be concerned, as several insiders sold their shares over the past year. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Alamo Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Michael Haberman, sold US$398k worth of shares at a price of US$225 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$184). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.
In the last year Alamo Group insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insiders At Alamo Group Have Sold Stock Recently
Over the last three months, we've seen a bit of insider selling at Alamo Group. Senior Vice President of Corporate Human Resources Janet Pollock sold just US$50k worth of shares in that time. It's not great to see insider selling, nor the lack of recent buyers. But the volume sold is so low that it really doesn't bother us.
Does Alamo Group Boast High Insider Ownership?
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Alamo Group insiders own about US$34m worth of shares. That equates to 1.5% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
So What Do The Alamo Group Insider Transactions Indicate?
