From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Vitec Software Group AB (publ)'s (STO:VIT B ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Vitec Software Group

The Chief Operating Officer, Gert Gustafsson, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for kr2.6m worth of shares at a price of kr518 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (kr392). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Gert Gustafsson.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 2.83k shares for kr1.3m. On the other hand they divested 5.00k shares, for kr2.6m. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Insiders At Vitec Software Group Have Bought Stock Recently

There was some insider buying at Vitec Software Group over the last quarter. Insiders bought kr176k worth of shares in that time. We like it when there are only buyers, and no sellers. But in this case the amount purchased means the recent transaction may not be very meaningful on its own.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Vitec Software Group insiders own about kr2.0b worth of shares (which is 13% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Do The Vitec Software Group Insider Transactions Indicate?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. But we can't say the same for the transactions over the last 12 months. Overall, we'd prefer see a more sustained buying from directors, but with a significant insider holding and more recent purchases, Vitec Software Group insiders are reasonably well aligned, and optimistic for the future. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
