The board of RugVista Group AB (publ) (STO:RUG) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of SEK1.80 on the 30th of May, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. Even though the dividend went up, the yield is still quite low at only 2.6%.

RugVista Group's Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage

Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. Prior to this announcement, RugVista Group's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This indicates that quite a large proportion of earnings is being invested back into the business.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 86.0%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 29% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

RugVista Group's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency

Even in its short history, we have seen the dividend cut. The dividend has gone from an annual total of SEK2.50 in 2022 to the most recent total annual payment of SEK1.80. The dividend has fallen 28% over that period. A company that decreases its dividend over time generally isn't what we are looking for.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

With a relatively unstable dividend, and a poor history of shrinking dividends, it's even more important to see if EPS is growing. RugVista Group has impressed us by growing EPS at 15% per year over the past five years. Earnings are on the uptrend, and it is only paying a small portion of those earnings to shareholders.

RugVista Group Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable.
