With EPS Growth And More, Cibus Nordic Real Estate (STO:CIBUS) Makes An Interesting Case
The excitement of investing in a company that can reverse its fortunes is a big draw for some speculators, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can manage to find investors. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.
Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like Cibus Nordic Real Estate (STO:CIBUS). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

How Quickly Is Cibus Nordic Real Estate Increasing Earnings Per Share?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price should eventually follow. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Impressively, Cibus Nordic Real Estate has grown EPS by 23% per year, compound, in the last three years. As a general rule, we'd say that if a company can keep up that sort of growth, shareholders will be beaming.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. Not all of Cibus Nordic Real Estate's revenue this year is revenue from operations, so keep in mind the revenue and margin numbers used in this article might not be the best representation of the underlying business. While we note Cibus Nordic Real Estate achieved similar EBIT margins to last year, revenue grew by a solid 31% to €116m. That's a real positive.

Are Cibus Nordic Real Estate Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Insider interest in a company always sparks a bit of intrigue and many investors are on the lookout for companies where insiders are putting their money where their mouth is. This view is based on the possibility that stock purchases signal bullishness on behalf of the buyer. However, small purchases are not always indicative of conviction, and insiders don't always get it right.
We note that Cibus Nordic Real Estate insiders spent €707k on stock, over the last year; in contrast, we didn't see any selling. That paints the company in a nice light, as it signals that its leaders are feeling confident in where the company is heading.
The good news, alongside the insider buying, for Cibus Nordic Real Estate bulls is that insiders (collectively) have a meaningful investment in the stock. To be specific, they have €374m worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Despite being just 4.8% of the company, the value of that investment is enough to show insiders have plenty riding on the venture.
Shareholders have more to smile about than just insiders adding more shares to their already sizeable holdings. That's because on our analysis the CEO, Sverker Källgården, is paid less than the median for similar sized companies. For companies with market capitalisations between €370m and €1.5b, like Cibus Nordic Real Estate, the median CEO pay is around €727k.
The CEO of Cibus Nordic Real Estate was paid just €603k in total compensation for the year ending December 2021. This total may indicate that the CEO is sacrificing take home pay for performance-based benefits, ensuring that their motivations are synonymous with strong company results. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when it's reasonable, that gives a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.
