Shareholders in HEXPOL AB (publ) (STO:HPOL B) may be thrilled to learn that the analysts have just delivered a major upgrade to their near-term forecasts. Consensus estimates suggest investors could expect greatly increased statutory revenues and earnings per share, with analysts modelling a real improvement in business performance.

Following the upgrade, the latest consensus from HEXPOL's four analysts is for revenues of kr21b in 2022, which would reflect a solid 19% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are expected to be kr7.05, roughly flat on the last 12 months. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of kr18b and earnings per share (EPS) of kr6.24 in 2022. There has definitely been an improvement in perception recently, with the analysts substantially increasing both their earnings and revenue estimates.

Although the analysts have upgraded their earnings estimates, there was no change to the consensus price target of kr119, suggesting that the forecast performance does not have a long term impact on the company's valuation. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. The most optimistic HEXPOL analyst has a price target of kr142 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at kr108. With such a narrow range of valuations, analysts apparently share similar views on what they think the business is worth.

Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. The analysts are definitely expecting HEXPOL's growth to accelerate, with the forecast 26% annualised growth to the end of 2022 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 5.9% per annum over the past five years. Compare this with other companies in the same industry, which are forecast to grow their revenue 10% annually. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect HEXPOL to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away from this upgrade is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates for this year, expecting improving business conditions. They also upgraded their revenue estimates for this year, and sales are expected to grow faster than the wider market. The lack of change in the price target is puzzling, but with a serious upgrade to this year's earnings expectations, it might be time to take another look at HEXPOL.

With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for HEXPOL going out to 2024, and you can see them free on our platform here..
