Do Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii's (WSE:CNT) Earnings Warrant Your Attention?

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii (WSE:CNT). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Quickly Is Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii Increasing Earnings Per Share?

If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS). It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. It certainly is nice to see that Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii has managed to grow EPS by 34% per year over three years. As a general rule, we'd say that if a company can keep up that sort of growth, shareholders will be smiling.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii's EBIT margins have actually improved by 9.3 percentage points in the last year, to reach 15%, but, on the flip side, revenue was down 36%. That falls short of ideal.

Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of zł184m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii insiders own a meaningful share of the business. In fact, they own 77% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. In terms of absolute value, insiders have zł141m invested in the business, using the current share price. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!

Is Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii Worth Keeping An Eye On?

You can't deny that Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. I think that EPS growth is something to boast of, and it doesn't surprise me that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research. So the answer is that I do think this is a good stock to follow along with. We should say that we've discovered 2 warning signs for Centrum Nowoczesnych Technologii that you should be aware of before investing here.

Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
