LG Innotek Co., Ltd.'s (KRX:011070) Stock is Soaring But Financials Seem Inconsistent: Will The Uptrend Continue?
LG Innotek (KRX:011070) has had a great run on the share market with its stock up by a significant 50% over the last three months. But the company's key financial indicators appear to be differing across the board and that makes us question whether or not the company's current share price momentum can be maintained. In this article, we decided to focus on LG Innotek's ROE.
ROE or return on equity is a useful tool to assess how effectively a company can generate returns on the investment it received from its shareholders. In simpler terms, it measures the profitability of a company in relation to shareholder's equity.
How Is ROE Calculated?
The formula for ROE is:
Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity
So, based on the above formula, the ROE for LG Innotek is:
5.5% = ₩289b ÷ ₩5.3t (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2025).
The 'return' refers to a company's earnings over the last year. One way to conceptualize this is that for each ₩1 of shareholders' capital it has, the company made ₩0.05 in profit.

What Has ROE Got To Do With Earnings Growth?
We have already established that ROE serves as an efficient profit-generating gauge for a company's future earnings. We now need to evaluate how much profit the company reinvests or "retains" for future growth which then gives us an idea about the growth potential of the company. Assuming everything else remains unchanged, the higher the ROE and profit retention, the higher the growth rate of a company compared to companies that don't necessarily bear these characteristics.
LG Innotek's Earnings Growth And 5.5% ROE
When you first look at it, LG Innotek's ROE doesn't look that attractive. However, its ROE is similar to the industry average of 6.3%, so we won't completely dismiss the company. However, LG Innotek has seen a flattish net income growth over the past five years, which is not saying much. Bear in mind, the company's ROE is not very high. Hence, this provides some context to the flat earnings growth seen by the company.
Next, on comparing with the industry net income growth, we found that LG Innotek's reported growth was lower than the industry growth of 11% over the last few years, which is not something we like to see.
Earnings growth is an important metric to consider when valuing a stock. What investors need to determine next is if the expected earnings growth, or the lack of it, is already built into the share price. Doing so will help them establish if the stock's future looks promising or ominous. What is A011070 worth today? Is LG Innotek Making Efficient Use Of Its Profits?
LG Innotek's low three-year median payout ratio of 12%, (meaning the company retains88% of profits) should mean that the company is retaining most of its earnings and consequently, should see higher growth than it has reported.
In addition, LG Innotek has been paying dividends over a period of six years suggesting that keeping up dividend payments is way more important to the management even if it comes at the cost of business growth. Our latest analyst data shows that the future payout ratio of the company over the next three years is expected to be approximately 12%. Still, forecasts suggest that LG Innotek's future ROE will rise to 9.1% even though the the company's payout ratio is not expected to change by much.
Summary
Overall, we have mixed feelings about LG Innotek. While the company does have a high rate of reinvestment, the low ROE means that all that reinvestment is not reaping any benefit to its investors, and moreover, its having a negative impact on the earnings growth. That being so, the latest analyst forecasts show that the company will continue to see an expansion in its earnings.
