LS Networks (KRX:000680) shareholders are still up 109% over 5 years despite pulling back 13% in the past week
LS Networks Corporation Limited (KRX:000680) shareholders might be concerned after seeing the share price drop 20% in the last month. But that doesn't change the fact that shareholders have received really good returns over the last five years. In fact, the share price is 109% higher today. We think it's more important to dwell on the long term returns than the short term returns. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean it's cheap now. Unfortunately not all shareholders will have held it for the long term, so spare a thought for those caught in the 27% decline over the last twelve months.
Although LS Networks has shed ₩40b from its market cap this week, let's take a look at its longer term fundamental trends and see if they've driven returns.
Because LS Networks made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.
In the last 5 years LS Networks saw its revenue grow at 33% per year. That's well above most pre-profit companies. Meanwhile, its share price performance certainly reflects the strong growth, given the share price grew at 16% per year, compound, during the period. So it seems likely that buyers have paid attention to the strong revenue growth. To our minds that makes LS Networks worth investigating - it may have its best days ahead.

A Different Perspective
While the broader market lost about 8.2% in the twelve months, LS Networks shareholders did even worse, losing 27%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 16%, each year, over five years. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand LS Networks better, we need to consider many other factors. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 2 warning signs with LS Networks , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
