Concordia Financial Group (TSE:7186) Is Increasing Its Dividend To ¥17.00
The board of Concordia Financial Group, Ltd. (TSE:7186) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥17.00 on the 2nd of December, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. The payment will take the dividend yield to 3.4%, which is in line with the average for the industry.
Concordia Financial Group's Payment Expected To Have Solid Earnings Coverage
We like to see a healthy dividend yield, but that is only helpful to us if the payment can continue.
Concordia Financial Group has established itself as a dividend paying company, given its 9-year history of distributing earnings to shareholders. Past distributions do not necessarily guarantee future ones, but Concordia Financial Group's payout ratio of 40% is a good sign for current shareholders as this means that earnings decently cover dividends.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 12.5% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the future payout ratio will be 44%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Concordia Financial Group Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
Even though the company has been paying a consistent dividend for a while, we would like to see a few more years before we feel comfortable relying on it. Since 2016, the dividend has gone from ¥13.00 total annually to ¥34.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 11% per annum over that time. We're not overly excited about the relatively short history of dividend payments, however the dividend is growing at a nice rate and we might take a closer look.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Concordia Financial Group has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 14% per annum. The company is paying a reasonable amount of earnings to shareholders, and is growing earnings at a decent rate so we think it could be a decent dividend stock.
Concordia Financial Group Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. Earnings growth generally bodes well for the future value of company dividend payments.
