Did you know there are some financial metrics that can provide clues of a potential multi-bagger? In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in FAE Technology's (BIT:FAE) returns on capital, so let's have a look.

Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)

For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on FAE Technology is:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.15 = €5.9m ÷ (€59m - €21m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2024).

So, FAE Technology has an ROCE of 15%. In absolute terms, that's a satisfactory return, but compared to the Electronic industry average of 11% it's much better.

So How Is FAE Technology's ROCE Trending?

The trends we've noticed at FAE Technology are quite reassuring. The numbers show that in the last four years, the returns generated on capital employed have grown considerably to 15%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 805% more capital is being employed now too. The increasing returns on a growing amount of capital is common amongst multi-baggers and that's why we're impressed.

One more thing to note, FAE Technology has decreased current liabilities to 35% of total assets over this period, which effectively reduces the amount of funding from suppliers or short-term creditors. This tells us that FAE Technology has grown its returns without a reliance on increasing their current liabilities, which we're very happy with.
