Does IIFL Securities (NSE:IIFLSEC) Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.
If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in IIFL Securities (NSE:IIFLSEC). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

How Fast Is IIFL Securities Growing?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. We can see that in the last three years IIFL Securities grew its EPS by 12% per year. That's a good rate of growth, if it can be sustained.
I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. I note that IIFL Securities's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. While we note IIFL Securities's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 30% to ₹9.1b. That's progress.

While it's always good to see growing profits, you should always remember that a weak balance sheet could come back to bite. So check IIFL Securities's balance sheet strength, before getting too excited.
Are IIFL Securities Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. So it is good to see that IIFL Securities insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth ₹9.6b. Coming in at 34% of the business, that holding gives insiders a lot of influence, and plenty of reason to generate value for shareholders. Very encouraging.
Should You Add IIFL Securities To Your Watchlist?
One positive for IIFL Securities is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. What about risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for IIFL Securities you should know about.
Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
