Insiders at IPE Group Limited (HKG:929) sold HK$21m worth of stock at an average price of HK$0.42 a share over the past year, making the most of their investment. After the stock price dropped 12% last week, the company's market value declined by HK$126m, but insiders were able to mitigate their losses.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At IPE Group
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Executive Chairman & CEO Guangsheng Zeng bought HK$21m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.41 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of HK$0.86. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.
Siu On Chui sold a total of 51.06m shares over the year at an average price of HK$0.42. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Does IPE Group Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that IPE Group insiders own 16% of the company, worth about HK$148m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
