Foncière Euris (EPA:EURS) Share Prices Have Dropped 69% In The Last Three Years

It is a pleasure to report that the Foncière Euris SA (EPA:EURS) is up 54% in the last quarter. But over the last three years we've seen a quite serious decline. Regrettably, the share price slid 69% in that period. Some might say the recent bounce is to be expected after such a bad drop. While many would remain nervous, there could be further gains if the business can put its best foot forward.

Foncière Euris isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally expect to see good revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.

In the last three years Foncière Euris saw its revenue shrink by 5.0% per year. That is not a good result. With revenue in decline, and profit but a dream, we can understand why the share price has been declining at 19% per year. Having said that, if growth is coming in the future, now may be the low ebb for the company. We'd be pretty wary of this one until it makes a profit, because we don't specialize in finding turnaround situations.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between Foncière Euris' total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. Arguably the TSR is a more complete return calculation because it accounts for the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested), along with the hypothetical value of any discounted capital that have been offered to shareholders. Dividends have been really beneficial for Foncière Euris shareholders, and that cash payout explains why its total shareholder loss of 62%, over the last 3 years, isn't as bad as the share price return.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market gained around 0.1% in the last year, Foncière Euris shareholders lost 16%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Unfortunately, last year's performance may indicate unresolved challenges, given that it was worse than the annualised loss of 9% over the last half decade. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For instance, we've identified 3 warning signs for Foncière Euris (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable) that you should be aware of.
