InCity Immobilien AG (ETR:IC8) Stock's 26% Dive Might Signal An Opportunity But It Requires Some Scrutiny
Unfortunately for some shareholders, the InCity Immobilien AG (ETR:IC8) share price has dived 26% in the last thirty days, prolonging recent pain. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 60% share price decline.
Since its price has dipped substantially, InCity Immobilien may be sending very bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, since almost half of all companies in the Real Estate industry in Germany have P/S ratios greater than 3.3x and even P/S higher than 7x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.

What Does InCity Immobilien's Recent Performance Look Like?
With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, InCity Immobilien has been doing very well. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If that doesn't eventuate, then existing shareholders have reason to be quite optimistic about the future direction of the share price.
Although there are no analyst estimates available for InCity Immobilien, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow. How Is InCity Immobilien's Revenue Growth Trending?
InCity Immobilien's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very poor growth or even falling revenue, and importantly, perform much worse than the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company's revenues underwent some rampant growth over the last 12 months. Spectacularly, three year revenue growth has also set the world alight, thanks to the last 12 months of incredible growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have been over the moon with those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to shrink 34% in the next 12 months, the company's positive momentum based on recent medium-term revenue results is a bright spot for the moment.
With this information, we find it very odd that InCity Immobilien is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
What We Can Learn From InCity Immobilien's P/S?
Having almost fallen off a cliff, InCity Immobilien's share price has pulled its P/S way down as well. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
Our examination of InCity Immobilien revealed that despite growing revenue over the medium-term in a shrinking industry, the P/S doesn't reflect this as it's lower than the industry average. There could be some major unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching this positive performance. Perhaps there is some hesitation about the company's ability to stay its recent course and swim against the current of the broader industry turmoil. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued, but investors think future revenue could see a lot of volatility.
