Image Resources Insiders Recover Some Losses, Which Stand At AU$45k
Insiders who purchased AU$201.7k worth of Image Resources NL (ASX:IMA) shares over the past year recouped some of their losses after price gained 12% last week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at AU$45k since the time of purchase.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Image Resources
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by MD, CEO & Director Patrick Mutz for AU$202k worth of shares, at about AU$0.099 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than AU$0.077 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Patrick Mutz was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of Image Resources
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Image Resources insiders own 22% of the company, worth about AU$19m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
So What Do The Image Resources Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Image Resources insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Insiders own shares in Image Resources and we see no evidence to suggest they are worried about the future. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
