Future Supply Chain Solutions Limited (NSE:FSC) Looks Just Right

With a price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 25.7x Future Supply Chain Solutions Limited (NSE:FSC) may be sending very bearish signals at the moment, given that almost half of all companies in India have P/E ratios under 13x and even P/E's lower than 7x are not unusual. However, the P/E might be quite high for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

Future Supply Chain Solutions has been struggling lately as its earnings have declined faster than most other companies. It might be that many expect the dismal earnings performance to recover substantially, which has kept the P/E from collapsing. If not, then existing shareholders may be very nervous about the viability of the share price.

What Are Growth Metrics Telling Us About The High P/E?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/E as steep as Future Supply Chain Solutions' is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the market decidedly.

Taking a look back first, the company's earnings per share growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 17%. The last three years don't look nice either as the company has shrunk EPS by 51% in aggregate. Therefore, it's fair to say the earnings growth recently has been undesirable for the company.

Looking ahead now, EPS is anticipated to climb by 157% during the coming year according to the dual analysts following the company. With the market only predicted to deliver 0.8%, the company is positioned for a stronger earnings result.

In light of this, it's understandable that Future Supply Chain Solutions' P/E sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

What We Can Learn From Future Supply Chain Solutions' P/E?

While the price-to-earnings ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of earnings expectations.

As we suspected, our examination of Future Supply Chain Solutions' analyst forecasts revealed that its superior earnings outlook is contributing to its high P/E. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/E as they are quite confident future earnings aren't under threat. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.

There are also other vital risk factors to consider and we've discovered 5 warning signs for Future Supply Chain Solutions (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.

Leverage on its own is close to useless as a screen right now, because so much corporate debt was termed out at 2 to 3% and has not repriced. A business at three times leverage with nothing due until 2031 is in a completely different position from the same ratio rolling next year. Screen on weighted average maturity and the schedule behind it.
