Companies that pay out too much of their earnings are at risk of having to reduce or cut their dividend in future. If earnings growth slows or earnings fall, then there may not be enough earnings to maintain the same dividend. Or in extreme cases, companies may opt to dig into capital reserves or take on debt to maintain the dividend. However, this risk is mitigated by the fact the dividend is covered by cash flows. For dividend paying companies, any reduction in the dividend can significantly impact the share price. Currently, the following risks have been identified for the company: Minor Risks Negative equity (-CHF4.8m). Dividend is not well covered by earnings (229% payout ratio). Share price has been volatile over the past 3 months (6.9% average weekly change). Large one-off items impacting financial results. Profit margins are more than 30% lower than last year (1.7% net profit margin).New Risk • Mar 09New minor risk - Negative shareholders equityThe company has negative equity. Total equity: -CHF4.8m This is considered a minor risk. Being in negative equity means that the company's liabilities exceed its assets, meaning it owes more to creditors than it has in owned assets. While this doesn't mean the company is about to collapse, in the long-term, this is unsustainable. The company may have issues meeting financial obligations, is at risk of becoming insolvent and may have difficulty raising capital, especially more debt, if needed. It should be noted that some of the negative equity could be due to large buybacks of stock, which is not as much of a risk as a company with overwhelming debt, but likewise is not sustainable in the long-term. Currently, the following risks have been identified for the company: Minor Risks Negative equity (-CHF4.8m). Share price has been volatile over the past 3 months (6.8% average weekly change). Profit margins are more than 30% lower than last year (1.7% net profit margin).Reported Earnings • Mar 09Full year 2024 earnings: Revenues exceed analysts expectations while EPS lags behindFull year 2024 results: EPS: CHF0.39 (down from CHF1.15 in FY 2023). New Risk • Mar 11New minor risk - Dividend sustainabilityThe dividend is not well covered by earnings. Payout ratio: 229% Dividend yield: 4.1% This is considered a minor risk. Profit margins are more than 30% lower than last year (1.7% net profit margin).
New Risk • Mar 09New minor risk - Negative shareholders equityThe company has negative equity. Profit margins are more than 30% lower than last year (1.7% net profit margin).
