Covenant Logistics Group (NASDAQ:CVLG) Is Increasing Its Dividend To $0.11
Covenant Logistics Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:CVLG) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 31st of March to $0.11. This takes the annual payment to 0.9% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

Covenant Logistics Group's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. However, prior to this announcement, Covenant Logistics Group's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to fall by 30.0% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio could be 5.9%, which we consider to be quite comfortable, with most of the company's earnings left over to grow the business in the future.
Covenant Logistics Group Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
Without a track record of dividend payments, we can't make a judgement on how stable it has been. This doesn't mean that the company can't pay a good dividend, but just that we want to wait until it can prove itself.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. Covenant Logistics Group has impressed us by growing EPS at 21% per year over the past five years. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.
Covenant Logistics Group Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. The company is generating plenty of cash, and the earnings also quite easily cover the distributions. If earnings do fall over the next 12 months, the dividend could be buffeted a little bit, but we don't think it should cause too much of a problem in the long term. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
