Investors Aren't Buying Zuora, Inc.'s (NYSE:ZUO) Revenues

You may think that with a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2.8x Zuora, Inc. (NYSE:ZUO) is a stock worth checking out, seeing as almost half of all the Software companies in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 4.6x and even P/S higher than 12x aren't out of the ordinary. What Does Zuora's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Zuora could be doing better as it's been growing revenue less than most other companies lately. It seems that many are expecting the uninspiring revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the growth of the P/S ratio. If this is the case, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

How Is Zuora's Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Zuora would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a worthy increase of 11%. This was backed up an excellent period prior to see revenue up by 43% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

With this in consideration, its clear as to why Zuora's P/S is falling short industry peers. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on while the company is potentially eyeing a less prosperous future.

Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
