A Closer Look At Enfusion's Earnings
Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. You could think of the accrual ratio from cashflow as the 'non-FCF profit ratio'.
As a result, a negative accrual ratio is a positive for the company, and a positive accrual ratio is a negative. That is not intended to imply we should worry about a positive accrual ratio, but it's worth noting where the accrual ratio is rather high. Notably, there is some academic evidence that suggests that a high accrual ratio is a bad sign for near-term profits, generally speaking.
Over the twelve months to June 2024, Enfusion recorded an accrual ratio of -0.28. That implies it has very good cash conversion, and that its earnings in the last year actually significantly understate its free cash flow. To wit, it produced free cash flow of US$17m during the period, dwarfing its reported profit of US$3.15m. Enfusion shareholders are no doubt pleased that free cash flow improved over the last twelve months.

Our Take On Enfusion's Profit Performance
Happily for shareholders, Enfusion produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. Because of this, we think Enfusion's underlying earnings potential is as good as, or possibly even better, than the statutory profit makes it seem! On the other hand, its EPS actually shrunk in the last twelve months. Of course, we've only just scratched the surface when it comes to analysing its earnings; one could also consider margins, forecast growth, and return on investment, among other factors. If you want to do dive deeper into Enfusion, you'd also look into what risks it is currently facing. For example - Enfusion has 3 warning signs we think you should be aware of.
