Should You Be Adding Accenture (NYSE:ACN) To Your Watchlist Today?

The excitement of investing in a company that can reverse its fortunes is a big draw for some speculators, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can manage to find investors. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.

So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Accenture (NYSE:ACN). While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

How Fast Is Accenture Growing?

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price should eventually follow. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. Over the last three years, Accenture has grown EPS by 7.4% per year. This may not be setting the world alight, but it does show that EPS is on the upwards trend.

Top-line growth is a great indicator that growth is sustainable, and combined with a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin, it's a great way for a company to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. EBIT margins for Accenture remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 2.7% to US$66b. That's encouraging news for the company!

Are Accenture Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a US$241b company like Accenture. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. Indeed, they have a considerable amount of wealth invested in it, currently valued at US$168m. While that is a lot of skin in the game, we note this holding only totals to 0.07% of the business, which is a result of the company being so large. This should still be a great incentive for management to maximise shareholder value.

Is Accenture Worth Keeping An Eye On?

One positive for Accenture is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. To add an extra spark to the fire, significant insider ownership in the company is another highlight. These two factors are a huge highlight for the company which should be a strong contender your watchlists. If you think Accenture might suit your style as an investor, you could go straight to its annual report, or you could first check our discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation for the company.
