Materialise (NasdaqGS:MTLS) Stock Dips As Higher EBIT Meets Soft Software Demand
Materialise came into this earnings print with the stock quietly up double digits over the past month. The 3D printing specialist then dropped 5.4% on the day, even as Q2 told a cleaner story of profits and cash.
Revenue reached €70.1m with adjusted EBIT of €3.9m, and management lifted full year EBIT guidance to a range of €12m to €14m. Strong free cash flow and a net cash position of €74.2m add weight to that upgrade. The gap between the softer share price and firmer profitability is where the real story starts.
Is Materialise trading at a genuine discount on a 26.7x trailing P/E, or is the softer revenue outlook already fairly captured in the share price? Compare the current market implied expectations with the valuation analysis for Materialise

Materialise hits key proof points in medical and series manufacturing
Bulls argue that Materialise can shift its mix toward higher value medical, software and series manufacturing work that supports stronger margins and cash. Q2 results partially back that up. Medical now accounts for 53% of revenue, with Devices & Services up 19% year on year and segment adjusted EBITDA at €11.6m on a 31% margin. That is exactly the type of clinically integrated, higher value activity the thesis expects from new implants and planning tools.
On the industrial side, Manufacturing revenue grew around 7%, with aerospace up 40% and H1 segment EBITDA roughly breakeven. That supports the idea of more repeatable series manufacturing volumes. Portfolio focus is also visible through the RapidFit and Eyewear divestments. The missing piece for the bullish narrative is Software, where revenue fell 3% and Q2 profitability softened even though recurring revenue reached 86% and CO AM launches are on track.

The key bearish claim around Materialise is that softer software demand, long lead times on partnerships and divestments that dilute revenue will cap progress even if Medical holds up. Q2 results give that view some backing. Software revenue fell 3% with elongated sales cycles and weaker U.S. academic budgets, and adjusted EBITDA in the segment eased to €1m despite 86% recurring revenue and the CO AM Pro launch. That is a clear milestone missed for a business expected to be a higher margin growth engine.
Bears also worry that asset sales could leave a revenue hole that Medical and Manufacturing will struggle to fill. Group revenue growth in H1 was about 4% and full year guidance is only reaffirmed rather than raised, even after RapidFit and Eyewear divestments. EBIT guidance has improved, but the mix of cost control and slower top line progress keeps the bearish focus on execution risk rather than removing it.
