Intuit's (NASDAQ:INTU) Dividend Will Be Increased To $1.20

Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ:INTU) will increase its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 17th of October to $1.20. The payment will take the dividend yield to 0.7%, which is in line with the average for the industry.

Intuit's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings

While it is always good to see a solid dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is feasible. However, prior to this announcement, Intuit's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.

Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 55.9% over the next year. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 23% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Intuit Has A Solid Track Record

Even over a long history of paying dividends, the company's distributions have been remarkably stable. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from $1.00 total annually to $4.80. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 17% over that duration. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. Intuit has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 15% per annum. Intuit definitely has the potential to grow its dividend in the future with earnings on an uptrend and a low payout ratio.

We Really Like Intuit's Dividend

Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. For example, we've picked out 1 warning sign for Intuit that investors should know about before committing capital to this stock. In that case Google is better placed. It owns both the model and the massive distribution.
