Even after rising 120% this past week, MicroCloud Hologram (NASDAQ:HOLO) shareholders are still down 25% over the past year
It is doubtless a positive to see that the MicroCloud Hologram Inc. (NASDAQ:HOLO) share price has gained some 239% in the last three months. But in truth the last year hasn't been good for the share price. In fact the stock is down 25% in the last year, well below the market return.
The recent uptick of 120% could be a positive sign of things to come, so let's take a look at historical fundamentals.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price.
MicroCloud Hologram fell to a loss making position during the year. While this may prove temporary, we'd consider it a negative, so it doesn't surprise us that the stock price is down. However, there may be an opportunity for investors if the company can recover.
The image below shows how EPS has tracked over time (if you click on the image you can see greater detail).
It's probably worth noting that the CEO is paid less than the median at similar sized companies. It's always worth keeping an eye on CEO pay, but a more important question is whether the company will grow earnings throughout the years. A Different Perspective
While MicroCloud Hologram shareholders are down 25% for the year, the market itself is up 7.9%. While the aim is to do better than that, it's worth recalling that even great long-term investments sometimes underperform for a year or more. Putting aside the last twelve months, it's good to see the share price has rebounded by 239%, in the last ninety days. Let's just hope this isn't the widely-feared 'dead cat bounce' (which would indicate further declines to come). I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
