BitFuFu Inc.'s (NASDAQ:FUFU) 26% Jump Shows Its Popularity With Investors
BitFuFu Inc. (NASDAQ:FUFU) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 26% after a shaky period beforehand. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 55% share price drop in the last twelve months.
Following the firm bounce in price, given around half the companies in the United States have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") below 18x, you may consider BitFuFu as a stock to potentially avoid with its 21.4x P/E ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the elevated P/E.
BitFuFu certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing earnings at a really rapid pace. It seems that many are expecting the strong earnings performance to beat most other companies over the coming period, which has increased investors’ willingness to pay up for the stock. If not, then existing shareholders might be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

In order to justify its P/E ratio, BitFuFu would need to produce impressive growth in excess of the market.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 385% gain to the company's bottom line. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 557% overall rise in EPS, aided by its short-term performance. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing earnings over that time.
This is in contrast to the rest of the market, which is expected to grow by 15% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.
With this information, we can see why BitFuFu is trading at such a high P/E compared to the market. It seems most investors are expecting this strong growth to continue and are willing to pay more for the stock.
The Final Word
BitFuFu shares have received a push in the right direction, but its P/E is elevated too. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-earnings ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
We've established that BitFuFu maintains its high P/E on the strength of its recent three-year growth being higher than the wider market forecast, as expected. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/E as they are quite confident earnings aren't under threat. Unless the recent medium-term conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for BitFuFu (of which 1 is a bit concerning!) you should know about.
