The recent 27% drop in Offerpad Solutions Inc.'s (NYSE:OPAD) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased US$1.7m worth of stock at an average buy price of US$1.69 over the past 12 months. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth US$435k, which is not great.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Offerpad Solutions

The Director Roberto Sella made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.7m worth of shares at a price of US$1.70 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$0.44). It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Roberto Sella was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Offerpad Solutions insiders own about US$30m worth of shares. That equates to 28% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
