KE Holdings' (NYSE:BEKE) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's

The board of KE Holdings Inc. (NYSE:BEKE) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of CN¥0.36 on the 22nd of April, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This takes the annual payment to 1.7% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

KE Holdings' Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. The last payment made up 73% of earnings, but cash flows were much higher. In general, cash flows are more important than earnings, so we are comfortable that the dividend will be sustainable going forward, especially with so much cash left over for reinvestment.

Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 156.4% over the next year. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 4.2% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

KE Holdings Is Still Building Its Track Record

Without a track record of dividend payments, we can't make a judgement on how stable it has been. This doesn't mean that the company can't pay a good dividend, but just that we want to wait until it can prove itself.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. It's encouraging to see that KE Holdings has been growing its earnings per share at 60% a year over the past five years. Fast growing earnings are great, but this can rarely be sustained without some reinvestment into the business, which KE Holdings hasn't been doing.

KE Holdings Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
