EyePoint Pharmaceuticals' US$84m Market Cap Fall Books Insider Losses
The recent price decline of 21% in EyePoint Pharmaceuticals, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:EYPT) stock may have disappointed insiders who bought US$184.5k worth of shares at an average price of US$7.94 in the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only US$107.1k.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EyePoint Pharmaceuticals
The Independent Director Karen Zaderej made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$100k worth of shares at a price of US$7.98 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$4.61 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$185k for 23.24k shares. But insiders sold 5.55k shares worth US$61k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by EyePoint Pharmaceuticals insiders.
