Strong week for Taboola.com (NASDAQ:TBLA) shareholders doesn't alleviate pain of one-year loss
Taking the occasional loss comes part and parcel with investing on the stock market. Unfortunately, shareholders of Taboola.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:TBLA) have suffered share price declines over the last year. The share price has slid 53% in that time. Taboola.com hasn't been listed for long, so although we're wary of recent listings that perform poorly, it may still prove itself with time. Shareholders have had an even rougher run lately, with the share price down 23% in the last 90 days.
The recent uptick of 9.3% could be a positive sign of things to come, so let's take a lot at historical fundamentals.
Check out our latest analysis for Taboola.com
Given that Taboola.com didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.
Taboola.com grew its revenue by 16% over the last year. That's definitely a respectable growth rate. Meanwhile, the share price tanked 53%, suggesting the market had much higher expectations. It is of course possible that the business will still deliver strong growth, it will just take longer than expected to do it. For us it's important to consider when you think a company will become profitable, if you're basing your valuation on revenue.

It's probably worth noting that the CEO is paid less than the median at similar sized companies. But while CEO remuneration is always worth checking, the really important question is whether the company can grow earnings going forward. A Different Perspective
Taboola.com shareholders are down 53% for the year, even worse than the market loss of 2.8%. That's disappointing, but it's worth keeping in mind that the market-wide selling wouldn't have helped. The share price decline has continued throughout the most recent three months, down 23%, suggesting an absence of enthusiasm from investors. Given the relatively short history of this stock, we'd remain pretty wary until we see some strong business performance. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
