Giftify (NASDAQ:GIFT) shareholder returns have been stellar, earning 180% in 5 years
The worst result, after buying shares in a company (assuming no leverage), would be if you lose all the money you put in. But on the bright side, you can make far more than 100% on a really good stock. One great example is Giftify, Inc. (NASDAQ:GIFT) which saw its share price drive 180% higher over five years. It's also good to see the share price up 102% over the last quarter.
The past week has proven to be lucrative for Giftify investors, so let's see if fundamentals drove the company's five-year performance.
Giftify isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.
For the last half decade, Giftify can boast revenue growth at a rate of 61% per year. Even measured against other revenue-focussed companies, that's a good result. So it's not entirely surprising that the share price reflected this performance by increasing at a rate of 23% per year, in that time. So it seems likely that buyers have paid attention to the strong revenue growth. Giftify seems like a high growth stock - so growth investors might want to add it to their watchlist.
The graphic below depicts how earnings and revenue have changed over time (unveil the exact values by clicking on the image).
We consider it positive that insiders have made significant purchases in the last year. Even so, future earnings will be far more important to whether current shareholders make money. You can see what analysts are predicting for Giftify in this interactive graph of future profit estimates.
A Different Perspective
Giftify shareholders are down 48% for the year, but the market itself is up 9.5%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 23% per year over half a decade. It could be that the recent sell-off is an opportunity, so it may be worth checking the fundamental data for signs of a long term growth trend. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Giftify better, we need to consider many other factors. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 3 warning signs with Giftify , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
