Market forces rained on the parade of Forian Inc. (NASDAQ:FORA) shareholders today, when the covering analyst downgraded their forecasts for this year. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as the analyst factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.

Following the downgrade, the consensus from solo analyst covering Forian is for revenues of US$19m in 2024, implying a perceptible 4.6% decline in sales compared to the last 12 months. After this downgrade, the company is anticipated to report a loss of US$0.18 in 2024, a sharp decline from a profit over the last year. However, before this estimates update, the consensus had been expecting revenues of US$22m and US$0.07 per share in losses. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analyst making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.

Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. These estimates imply that sales are expected to slow, with a forecast annualised revenue decline of 9.0% by the end of 2024. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 19% over the last three years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 10% annually for the foreseeable future. It's pretty clear that Forian's revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that the analyst increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and the latest forecasts imply the business will grow sales slower than the wider market. After a cut like that, investors could be forgiven for thinking the analyst is a lot more bearish on Forian, and a few readers might choose to steer clear of the stock.

As you can see, the covering analyst clearly isn't bullish, and there might be good reason for that. We've identified some potential issues with Forian's financials, such as concerns around earnings quality. Learn more, and discover the 1 other risk we've identified, for free on our platform here.
