Over the past year, insiders sold US$2.2m worth of OppFi Inc. (NYSE:OPFI) stock at an average price of US$9.69 per share allowing them to get the most out of their money. The company’s market cap plunged by US$126m after price dropped by 11% last week but insiders were able to limit their loss to an extent.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

OppFi Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Chief Risk & Analytics Officer, Christopher McKay, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.3m worth of shares at a price of US$12.93 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$12.27. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

In the last year OppFi insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Does OppFi Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 1.1% of OppFi shares, worth about US$22m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
