Insiders At Frontdoor Sold US$1.9m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
The fact that multiple Frontdoor, Inc. (NASDAQ:FTDR) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Frontdoor
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Senior VP & Chief Operations Officer, Evan Iverson, for US$941k worth of shares, at about US$58.84 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$57.33. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.
In the last twelve months insiders purchased 10.00k shares for US$425k. But they sold 36.00k shares for US$1.9m. Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Frontdoor shares, than buying. Insider Ownership Of Frontdoor
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Frontdoor insiders own about US$25m worth of shares. That equates to 0.6% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Frontdoor Tell Us?
An insider hasn't bought Frontdoor stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. But since Frontdoor is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. Insiders own shares, but we're still pretty cautious, given the history of sales. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. To assist with this, we've discovered 2 warning signs that you should run your eye over to get a better picture of Frontdoor.
